Therapy in Seattle for Anxiety and Trauma Frequently Asked Questions

ABOUT STARTING THERAPY

  • We explore why you are seeking counseling at this time and look at your therapy goals.

  • Generally speaking, during the first 1-3 sessions, we will do a thorough history and establish specific goals for your therapy. The next 3-4 sessions, we will develop a tool kit for dealing with the current stressors that brought you to counseling. In the last part of therapy, we will do the deep diving work to help heal the roots of problems that brought you to counseling.

  • We have found that meeting weekly improve clients’ progress toward their goals. For that reason, we meet with clients weekly. We will establish a set time to meet each week and that will be our reoccurring weekly appointment.

  • There are a lot of factors that contribute to the length of counseling, so it is difficult to predict until we begin working together. Typically, clients commit to counseling for 9 months and progress is measured monthly.

SERVICES

  • I offer an array of different kinds of therapy in addition to EMDR.  However, EMDR is helpful for anxiety, depression, OCD, addiction, unresolved grief and other mental health issues.  I am also trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness-based Therapy. And sometimes you just need talk therapy to work out other issues, such as relationship problems, family issues, and career/job goals. My priority is providing therapy that works for you.

COST AND INSURANCE

  • The intake session (first session) is $250 and, thereafter, $225 for a 50-minute session. I also provide 75-minute sessions upon request and availability.

  • I am covered out of network with various insurance companies. I do not bill for insurance but can provide a receipt (called a Superbill) for for you to send to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.  You can check on your insurance company’s out-of-network provider terms by asking the following questions:

Does my policy have mental health benefits?  What is my deductible and has it been met both in-network and out-of-network? How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover? How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider? What is the coverage amount per therapy session that my insurance covers? Is approval required from my primary care physician?

SCHEDULING

  • I work Monday - Thursdays from 10AM-5PM. If you need sessions outside those days, please let me know.

  • I currently provide in-person therapy from my office on Mercer Island, and Telehealth counseling using a secure HIPAA compliant platform. If you have any questions regarding this process, let’s discuss them during the free 15-minute consultation session.

  • My approach to therapy is rooted in trust and genuine connection, which requires a consistent, steady approach to therapy. I reserve a specific time each week just for you. You’re paying for your spot on my schedule, not for each session. For example, if we agree that Tuesdays at 1pm work for us both, that time is yours throughout the month. If you need to miss a session, payment is still required. I’ll do my best to reschedule you within the same week or occasionally offer two sessions the following week if our schedules allows. This policy helps protect the consistency that’s so important for deep therapeutic work, allowing me to maintain a small, focused caseload. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss this policy further.
